CHARITY

"MATERIAL ASSISTANCE TO ORPHANAGES AND RETIREMENT HOMES"

CHARITABLE INITIATIVE

Based on the "On Charity" (LA -424) law adopted on October 8, 2002, in the Republic of Armenia which states that "charity by individuals, legal entities, and non-profit organizations is not prohibited by law when providing material and spiritual assistance", and in accordance with Resolution No. 499 from the Board of Directors of the HAYADARAN All Armenian Information System, effective August 2024, HAYADARAN implements the Charitable Initiative - "Material Assistance to Orphanages and Retirement Homes" in the Republic of Armenia. This initiative is funded by a 10% share of the amount transferred by each organization registered in the HAYADARAN ALL Armenian Information System.

It is well known that philanthropy has had a long tradition in Armenian culture. As early as the 4th-5th centuries, the Armenian Apostolic Church initiated philanthropic projects. At that time, Catholicos Nerses the Great (329-373 AD) was known for opening schools, orphanages, and poor schools. Many Armenian kings, queens, and dukes were also distinguished for their charitable acts. King Ashot the 3rd (953-977 AD) established schools and took special care of the poor, the blind, and the disabled. For these acts, he received the title "Deceased".

Throughout various periods, many wealthy Armenians have been recognized for their philanthropic contributions, including the noble Lazaryans, Nubar Pasha, his son Poghos Nubar Pasha, Aleksandr Mantashian, Charles Aznavour, Alek Manukian, Mr. Hovnanyan, Gerald Cafesjian, Albert Boyajian, Vatche Manoukyan, Maxim Hakobyan, Levon Hayrapetyan, Ralf Yerikyan, Hrant Vardanyan, and others. Comprehensive charitable activities are also carried out by many organizations, including the Armenian General Benevolent Union, Armenian Relief, the Red Cross, the "Howard Karagozyan" Institution, the "Galouste Gulbenkian" Agency, the Jinishyan Memorial Foundation, the Fund for Armenian Relief, and other organizations.

Please be informed that a special section will be allocated on the official website of the HAYADARAN All Armenian Information System for orphanages and retirement homes in Armenia to present an illustrative list of their essential material needs. Interested individuals and organizations can regularly check the relevant section of the site and participate in the Philanthropic Initiative without interference from HAYADARAN. Our website will list the names of orphanages and retirement homes, their contact information, directors’ names, addresses, phone numbers, and email addresses. Later, complete information on financial assistance will be provided in the appropriate section of the site, including the names of institutions providing assistance and the names of benevolent individuals. The assistance provided is based on the amount of money transferred by them. A financial report will be presented in a separate table detailing revenues and expenses.

The purpose of the "Material Assistance to Orphanages and Retirement Homes" philanthropic initiative is to meet the essential material needs of all orphanages and retirement homes in Armenia and to involve similar institutions in the Diaspora in this mission.

REGULATIONS OF THE INITIATIVE

In accordance with the resolution of the Board of Directors of the HAYADARAN All Armenian Information System, the Initiative has been carried out since August 2022. All amounts provided by benevolent individuals, as well as the 10% share from registered organizations in our project, are allocated to orphanages and retirement homes as material assistance.

An official letter has been sent to the directors of orphanages and retirement homes, requesting them to present a list of their essential material needs.

Organizations providing products at cost that are included in the list of essential material needs will be involved in the Initiative. The names and details of benevolent individuals and organizations will be featured in a special section of our website as supporters of the Initiative.

Let's remember that the orphan gathering, which works under the motto "One orphan, one Gold" began just after the Great Genocide, during which thousands of orphans were saved from the homes of Turks, Kurds, and Arabs.

Today, the HAYADARAN All Armenian Information System announces: "Let's reject the indifference that we call evil; let's unite around the abandoned children, grandfathers and grandmothers with compassion and concerted effort, just by paying our contribution (an amount of money paid for taxes)."

A Council of Trustees is being formed, which includes all interested individuals and organizations for whom nationalism is a way of life, and for whom the slogan "Homeland is my house, Nation-family" is familiar, and for whom Christianity is not just a phrase, and "The State is Their Castle".
